Umami Boost, a functional feed component developed by HiProMine, has been awarded the prestigious title of Innovative Product of the Year in the “Feed and Feed Additives” category of the Innovative Agricultural Product contest, organized by the editorial team of “Farmer”.

During the official gala held on 20 November, the competition results were announced, highlighting solutions that genuinely improve the efficiency and competitiveness of modern agriculture. In the feed category, the winner was Umami Boost, an innovative component designed to support a healthy start for piglets and improve production performance.

A breakthrough in piglet nutrition: inspired by nature, developed through science and technology

Umami Boost is the result of many years of research conducted by the HiProMine team under the leadership of Professor Damian Józefiak. The product combines natural sensory cues with an advanced functional-nutrition approach tailored to the needs of young animals.

Thanks to a patented production process, Umami Boost preserves essential:

  • nutritional,
  • functional,
  • sensory

properties that are crucial for healthy piglet development from the earliest stages.

“If we look at the behaviour of wild animals, we observe many patterns that are key to their survival. One of them is the rooting behaviour of wild boars as they search for larvae – a natural source of functional substances supporting the organism. Inspired by nature, we relied on scientific foundations and enhanced them with innovative technology, providing feed producers and farmers with the Umami Boost component.”

Key functional benefits of Umami Boost for piglet health and performance

Umami Boost delivers a range of properties that respond directly to the challenges of the weaning period:

  1. A complex of bioactive substances supporting immunity

Four groups of functional compounds help stabilise the microbiota, support immune response, and strengthen gastrointestinal development.

  1. Natural umami taste enhancing feed intake

Due to its high sensory attractiveness, young pigs approach the feeder more eagerly, start eating sooner after weaning, and adapt better during this stressful phase.

  1. Support for gut health and metabolic function

The component promotes villi development, improves blood parameters, stabilises digestive processes, and reduces the occurrence of digestive disorders.

  1. Reduced need for intervention treatments

By strengthening the digestive system and supporting overall health, Umami Boost helps limit situations requiring intervention.

Farm-proven results – higher performance and better economics

In field trials involving nearly 20,000 piglets, Umami Boost enabled producers to achieve:

  • up to 15% higher body weight,
  • up to 13% higher feed intake,
  • up to 10% lower mortality,
  • up to 6% lower FCR,
  • improved gut microstructure and blood parameters,
  • calmer animals and reduced ammonia (NH₃) levels.

Compared with control groups fed standard diets, the differences were clear and significant.

For farmers, this translates into real economic benefits, more stable rearing conditions, and improved predictability.

For feed manufacturers, it provides a strong competitive advantage and a more effective basis for prestarter and starter formulations.

“This distinction is especially meaningful to us because it shows that innovations inspired by nature and supported by science truly change the way we think about animal nutrition. Umami Boost is the result of the work of the entire HiProMine team, under the leadership of Professor Damian Józefiak, whose expertise and vision were the foundation of this product. I would like to thank all our partners, farmers and feed producers, who placed their trust in this solution. This award belongs to them as well.”

A new direction for the future of piglet nutrition

The award granted to Umami Boost confirms that combining science, nature and technological innovation can truly enhance animal health and production efficiency. It is also a strong message that Polish innovations in animal nutrition are shaping the future of the sector.
